Steve Castlen is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, former Circuit Court Judge, prosecutor, defense counsel, investigator, legal educator, and former Clerk & Court Administrator of the Georgia Court of Appeals. Drawing on decades spent examining evidence and weighing competing arguments, he writes history, biography, autobiography, and family stories that invite readers to look again at people and events they thought they knew.

Before reading this book, I knew a little about Constantine and his role in legalizing and eventually promoting Christianity in the days of the Roman Empire. However, I knew nothing about his mother, Helena, and her greater influence and role in building churches and establishing many of the practices that became part of Christian tradition. (Read More)
An insightful look at the origins on Christianity as related to St. Helena
A fascinating insight into the life of St. Helena and the origin of Imperial Roman Christianity. Even after visiting many of the religious sites mentioned in the book, I came away with a far greater understanding of their origins. Fasinating Hidden Gem of History!
I absolutely loved this book. It’s wonderfully written and kept me hooked from early on, with a perfect balance of humor and vivid historical detail. I went in knowing very little about St. Helena or the world she lived in, and I was surprised by how quickly I became invested in her story. The author does an excellent job of providing just enough background to bring the history to life without ever bogging the narrative down. (Read More)
